About: Peggy Kjelgaard
- Peggy Kjelgaard, Ph.D.
Peggy and her spouse, Roger Shepperd, moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas in September of 2004 from Dallas, Texas - both seeking the ambience of a smaller community that Eureka Springs so magically offers. They have built a home over-looking the White River near the town of Beaver, Arkansas. Peggy loves to write fiction and hopes to some day have a novel (or two) published.
Peggy's career story is unique and diversified. Born and raised in a farming community in North Dakota, she grew up to appreciate the beauty of a small town. She developed a strong work ethic at an early age, accompanied with a deep seeded drive for success. She attended the University of North Dakota and received a teaching degree. She taught elementary school for five years and then returned to University of North Dakota for her master's degree in teaching the learning disabled and the visually impaired. Peggy moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and continued her teaching career and met her future husband, Roger. Career opportunities lured them both to Dallas, Texas, where Peggy received her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas (Major: Curriculum and Instruction; Minor: Computer Science), earning her ticket into a corporate career where she worked her way up the ranks into leadership. She worked with Price WaterhouseCoopers, leading teams globally in knowledge management efforts. Then, she accepted a job with VHA (Volunteer Hospitals of America), where she continued her focus in knowledge management, but also embarked on leading an ambitious product development team.
Peggy exited her corporate career in 2004 and moved to Eureka Springs. She is currently the Executive Director for Eureka Springs School of the Arts (ESSA). Peggy continues to share her love for learning and teaching, along with her seasoned skills in business management and corporate leadership to further develop the dream of a successful art school in Eureka Springs. She also holds tight to her ambition to write and finds a nice balance to life with pen in hand…
